Niobium is gray metal, a melting point 2468 ℃, boiling point 4742 ℃, the density. - Applications of Superconducting: Niobium has the highest critical temperature among all the superconducting elements. The critical temperature for Niobium alloys goes as high as 18.5K, which makes them highly essential for superconducting materials.
- High-Temperature Alloys: Niobium finds wide applications in high-temperature applications, sometimes in its pure metallic state and more often in high-purity niobium and niobium-iron-nickel alloys. These materials are of utmost importance to the manufacturing of nickel-, chromium-, and iron-based alloys used in jet engines, gas turbines, rocket parts, turbochargers, and heat-resisting combustion equipment.
- Applications of Steel: Niobium is the most effective in steel micro alloying. Mechanical properties of steel can be considerably improved even when small addition quantities - from 0.001% to 0.1% - introduce niobium atoms into the iron matrix.
