Mid-carbon ferromanganese is a ferrous alloy of iron and manganese, containing between 1% and 2% carbon. Preparation usually occurs through the refining of high-carbon ferromanganese or by smelting in blast furnaces and electric furnaces. In powdered form, it is widely used in both metallurgy and steelmaking because it can provide manganese without excessive carbon, thus being suitable for specialized applications.

Steelmaking: Used for deoxidation and desulfurization, improving the strength and wear resistance of steel. Common in construction steel, stainless steel, and high-strength low-alloy steel.
Welding Industry: Added to welding electrodes to improve weld quality and reduce impurities.
Foundries: Enhances mechanical properties of cast iron and steel.
Powder Metallurgy: Used in the production of sintered metal components that require enhanced mechanical properties.
