Cobalt-based powder refers to hard alloy powder which can resist corrosion, oxidation and high temperature. With elements Cr, Ni, Al, and Y, made the WC powder can be used in spray welding and overlayed welding. Resistance to Oxidation & Hot Corrosion: The aluminum (Al) and chromium (Cr) within the alloy form a dense, stable protective oxide scale at high temperatures. This effectively shields the underlying base metal from oxidation and corrosive agents like molten salts.
Ductility & CTE Compatibility: Its thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) is engineered to fall between that of the metal substrate and the ceramic top coat. This allows it to mitigate stresses caused by thermal cycling, preventing the coating system from cracking or spalling.
CoNiCrAlY powder is primarily used as the bond coat in thermal barrier coating systems for hot-section components of aircraft engines and gas turbines.
It protects the substrate from extreme heat and corrosion. At the same time, It provides a rough, oxidation-resistant surface to which the subsequent zirconia-based ceramic top coat can securely adhere.
Spherical powders are typically packaged in vacuum aluminum foil bags or filled with inert gas (Ar).
